On the occasion of 2004 China Zhenjiang Golden Autumn Economic and Trade Fair, Zhenjiang inaugurated a series of Pearl S. Buck cultural activities. Four projects were involved. They were : 1, "Pearl S. Buck Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition"; 2, the first issue of the commemorative stamp album of "Pearl S. Buck in Zhenjiang"; 3, the first show of the TV profile "Pearl S. Buck in Zhenjiang"; 4, the opening ceremony of TV profile "Looking for Pearl S. Buck" co-produced by CCTV and ZJTV. We held the series of activities for Pearl S. Buck in order to introduce Pearl S. Buck who is the Nobel Prize winner, the honored human bridge for oriental and western culture exchange,the friendly envoy as well as the outstanding daughter of Zhenjiang.
The opening ceremony of China Zhenjiang Pearl S. Buck cultural activities was held in Zhenjiang in the afternoon 27,Sept.
The leaders present the opening ceremony are as follows:Mr. Shi Heping Secretary of CPC Zhenjiang Municipal Committer, Chairman of Zhenjiang of Zhenjiang Municipal People's Congress;
Mr. Wu Shunan Vice Secretary of CPC Zhenjiang Municipal Committee, Vice Chairman of Zhenjiang Municipal People's Congress, and President of Zhenjiang People's Friendship Association;
Mr. Jiang Licheng Member of CPC Zhenjiang Municipal Standing Committee, First Vice Mayor and Chief of the Leading Group of Pearl S. Buck Study;
Mr. Zhang Puxiong Member of CPC Zhenjiang Municipal Standing Committee, Director General of the Publicity Department;
Mr. Lu Shunhong Vice President of Zhenjiang People's Political Consultative Conference, Director General of the United Front Department;
And Ms. Xu Xiaoxia President of Zhenjiang Pearl S. Buck Research Association, Former Vice Chairman of Zhenjiang Municipal People's Congress.
The foreign guests presented were:
Mr. John Long, Board Chairman of Pearl S. Buck International;
Ms. Janet. Mintzer, President of Pearl S. Buck International;
Ms. Jnice. Walsh, Pearl S. Buck's daughter, Former President of Pearl S. Buck Foundation;
And a group of Pearl S.Buck International volunteers teaching in Zhenjiang.

Mr. Feng Cunli Vice director of CCTV Social Education Center, and the production team of "Looking for Pearl S. Buck"
Mr. Wang Fengzhen, Researcher of Chinese Modern Literature research institute, Translator of the book "The Good Earth";
Mr. Yao Junwei, Vice-chairman of the Foreign Language College of Nanjing Normal University;
Mr.Liu Haiping, President of National American Literature Research Institute;
And scholars, experts in Pearl S. Buck study in China; relative leaders from Suzhou Anhui Province, Jiujiang Jiangxi Province and Huaian Jiangsu Province.
The famous film director Mr. Zhai Junjie sent congratulation to the opening ceremony.
Leaders and representatives fron relative departments in Zhenjiang as well as members fron Pearl S. Buck research Association presented the opening ceremony.　 Mr. Cai Wenjun, Secretary of Zhenjiang Municipal People's Congress, Vice chief of the Leading Group of Pearl S. Buck Study hosted the ceremony. Mr. Jiang Licheng, Ms. Janet.Mintzer and Mr. Feng Cunli gave speeches respectively. Then four unveiling ceremonies were held. Guests then watched the TV profile "Pearl S. Buck in Zhenjiang"; visited "Pearl S. Buck Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition". At the end, Professor Yao Junwei gave a lecture entitled "Visiting America and Talking about Pearl S. Buck"
